The multiverse refers to a collection of parallel realities exist alongside one another in a continuous, interconnected flow.
Overview
The multiverse is the sum of all dimensions and parallel realities that exist. Together, these universes make up everything there is: space, time, matter, energy, information, and the physical laws and constants that define them. The different universes within it are often called "parallel universes," "alternate realities," or other similar names.
Many believe the multiverse can be explained by the eternal inflation theory, though its nature remains largely a mystery. Countless alternate worlds exist within it, each with their own unique traits.
The multiverse is constantly shifting, and every choice, thought, or idea someone has can create new timelines—some nearly identical, others vastly different. While usually separate, it's possible to open portals and travel between them.
History
Known Realities
| Reality | Description | Image |
|---|---|---|
| MAB-3L | MAB‑3L is a wild multiverse realm where countless alternate versions of Mabel Pines end up after getting lost between realities. When Prime Mabel is sucked through a wormhole, she finds herself in this chaotic "Mabel convergence zone," surrounded by dozens of wildly different Mabels—from Table Mabel to Brainbel to Anti-Mabel. The place pulls similar beings together, keeping all the Mabels trapped until Brainbel can finish building a dimensional escape pod. After Anti-Mabel's betrayal, Prime Mabel rallies the group, takes down her evil counterpart, and helps everyone finally make it back to their own dimensions. | |
| Nightmare Realm | The Nightmare Realm, also known as Dimension 0, is a chaotic, reality‑breaking void where Bill Cipher resided after destroying his original universe. It's portrayed as a swirling, unstable expanse of strange colors, drifting asteroids, and bizarre creatures, serving as a crossroads between dimensions. During Weirdmageddon, Bill used a rift to link it to Gravity Falls, unleashing its nightmarish denizens until his defeat dragged them back. The Realm reappears in Lost Legends, where Mabel, Stan, and Ford briefly journey through its surreal zones while exploring the multiverse. | |
| R34LITY | R34LITY is an alternate dimension in the Gravity Falls multiverse, known as one of the few places completely out of Bill Cipher's reach. After Bill's defeat, the Henchmaniacs, fearing he might return for revenge, turn to the Oracle, who leads them to this secret refuge. It becomes their new home, and later Bill stumbles upon photos of them living peacefully there, realizing they are truly free from his influence. The name "R34LITY" is thought to be a play on "reality," with many fans seeing it as a meta nod that the dimension could represent our own world. | |
| Chibiverse | In The Book of Bill, the Chibiverse is described as an alternate reality distinct from the world of Gravity Falls. Bill refers to the Chibiverse as "terrifying." | |

Trivia
- Amphibia and The Owl House are widely believed to share a multiverse with Gravity Falls, thanks to the creators' friendships, clever Easter eggs, and similar dimensional mechanics. In Amphibia, you can spot the exact mug, pen, and notepad that fall through Ford's portal in Gravity Falls, along with Journal 3 pages and even a Stan cameo. The Owl House slips in Bill Cipher imagery on tapestries, Titan Trapper symbols, and features major characters voiced by Alex Hirsch. While it's never been made official, series creators Alex Hirsch, Matt Braly, and Dana Terrace have admitted these nods were intentional, making the shared multiverse theory the most popular interpretation.
- It is unknown how many dimensions there are in total in the Multiverse, though according to Stanford Pines implies, there are at the very least 9,000.
